Hummer Accessories Guide

The Hum-Vee, or more properly named the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, is a vehicle created by American Motors General for the military as an all-terrain 4 wheel drive combat vehicle. The first 55,000 HMMWVs were delivered in 1985. The vehicle first saw combat in the US invasion of Panama in 1989.

American Motors General began selling a civilian form of the Hum-Vee in 1992 with a brand name ‘Hummer’. General Motors acquired the brand name in 1998 and became responsible for the marketing and distribution of all Hummers produced by AM General. GM introduced two new models, the H2 and H3, shortly after the acquisition. As of late 2009, the Hummer brand is in the process of being sold to Sichuan Tengzhong, a machinery company in western China.

The 2009 Hummer H3 midsize sport-utility vehicle is available in two basic models: the base H3 and the H3 Alpha. The H3 base does not come with a roof rack. The Alpha 3X Appearance package includes a chrome roof rack. The Hummer H3 Alpha roof rack is more for appearance than for dependable cargo hauling.
